Pathology Rotations

Training in anatomic pathology includes: autopsy pathology, surgical pathology, dermatopathology, immunohistochemistry, forensics, cytology, analytical cytometry, molecular biology, and cytogenetics. Training in clinical pathology includes: hematology, coagulation, transfusion medicine/blood banking, microbiology, clinical chemistry, toxicology, clinical immunology, medical microscopy, informatics, administration and management.

Each rotation is under the guidance of a specialized pathologist. The role of the pathologist as a clinical consultant is emphasized. There is an active molecular pathology laboratory and molecular diagnosis is stressed throughout. There are opportunities for scholarly, investigative activities, with some sources of funding available. The pathologists are medical examiners, and as a result the program offers a solid experience in forensic pathology. There are daily conferences in all disciplines in which the residents participate, either as presenters or in discussion.
