Stroke Care
Berkshire Medical Center was the first hospital in the United States to receive the American Heart Association's Get with the Guidelines Stroke Performance Achievement Award, and remains the only hospital in the country to earn the award for three consecutive years. For residents and visitors to Berkshire County, the message is both powerful and reassuring: patients who arrive at our emergency departments with signs of stroke will meet a team of experts delivering evidenced-based care that is saving lives and reducing the disability that often accompanies stroke.
This extraordinary group of caregivers includes neurologists, neurosurgeons, radiologists, nurses, physiatrists, physical, speech and occupational therapists and other dedicated caregivers who are available 24 hours a day. Using the highest standards of care, our stroke team has created a seamless initiative that includes early intervention, expert care in the Emergency Department, aggressive inpatient care, rehabilitation services and follow-up after leaving the hospital. We are committed to helping our patients and their families overcome stroke and resume their lives to the greatest extent possible.
Stroke can be a life-threatening emergency. Know the warning signs of stroke and get to the nearest emergency department if you or someone you know is experiencing any of the symptoms.
