Trauma Center Physicians

At any minute of the day, any day of the year, a team of highly skilled physicians, nurses and technicians at Berkshire Medical Center will rush to the trauma room in the Emergency Department to care for a patient who is the victim of a life-threatening accident or injury.

The caregivers are members of the BMC Trauma Team - a group of individuals from all medical specialties who represent the highest level of medical care available in the region. They include neurosurgeons, orthopaedic surgeons, chest and abdominal surgeons; anesthesiologists, radiologists, nurses and technicians.

"There have been some spectacular saves in this hospital as a result of their efforts," said Sheldon Brotman, MD, BMC's trauma medical director. "Trauma is the leading cause of death in people who are 44 years old and younger, and this is a particularly serious problem in a rural area.  At BMC, we have a verified Center of Excellence when it comes to treating trauma."
