Mother Baby Unit at BMC
More expectant mothers and their families choose Berkshire Medical Center's Mother Baby Unit for maternity care than any other facility in the area. And while BMC provides the largest Mother Baby Unit in the Berkshires, we've found that families have chosen our unit not for its size, but for the compassionate care we provide.
At Berkshire Medical Center, we pride ourselves on our ability to meet your needs for a birth experience that combines a caring, personal touch with the knowledge and experience to anticipate your needs as well as those of your newborn.
A Room of Your Own
Our spacious birthing rooms are an ideal environment for you to labor and birth your baby accompanied by your partner or support team of your choice. Each room is equipped with a telephone, television and private bathroom with shower for your comfort and privacy.
Although home-like in appearance, each birthing room also contains the medical equipment that may be needed for you and your baby's safe birth.
Should you require a cesarean delivery, the Mother Baby Unit is equipped with its own surgical suite so you will be able to stay right on the unit for your delivery and recovery.
Following your baby's birth, you will stay in a private post-partum room, with its own bathroom and shower, as well as a sleeping chair for your partner or support person, to enable you to have uninterrupted time to get to know the newest member of your family.
Baby Photos
To help capture those precious first moments with your newborn, a photo service is available at BMC. A representative of the hospital will contact you during your stay to provide you with the information about photo packages that are available, review fees for the service, and take photos of your newborn before your discharge, if you desire.
A Celebration Dinner
To help you celebrate your new addition, Berkshire Medical Center invites you and your partner to share in a special dinner before you are discharged. The dietary staff will review menu choices with you and will arrange to have your dinner served on a day that is convenient for you and your partner.
Discharge Planning
There are many services provided within Berkshire County to assist new parents after they are discharged home from the hospital with their newborn.
To explain what services are available and to arrange for services you are interested in, a member of the BMC Case Management Department will meet with you before your discharge. From visiting nurses to support groups for new parents, your case manager will review the options with you and help you to determine what might best meet your needs.
