BHS Information Systems
Providing caregivers with instant access to patient information...
Between the hours of 8 and 9 a.m. one morning in December, 171 caregivers at Berkshire Health Systems facilities consulted their patients' medical records 3,191 times. Most of the records - a mix of 2,835 inpatients and outpatients - were checked at Berkshire Medical Center and its Hillcrest Campus. Another 266 were viewed at Fairview Hospital and 80 more in the physician practices of Berkshire Faculty Services.
Providing caregivers with instant access to the patient information required adds up to better patient safety and care. In support of the care received are some of the advanced clinical system tools available:
-
Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
-
Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE)
-
Patient Care System/ Nursing Documentation (PCS)
-
Bedside Medication Verification (BMV) (Winter 2007-08)
In support of the advanced clinical systems is the backbone of an advanced infrastructure and two datacenters. At Berkshire Health Systems, a nationally recognized Most Wired hospital system, we have made the investment in technology and applications all in support of providing caregivers with instant access to patient information.
The philosophy of the Information Systems Division is quite simple...
"Be The Patient." If you, the IT professional are a patient in our system, how do you want the technical system to perform in support of your care?
To balance the need for advanced clinical systems and advanced technology, Berkshire Health Systems is also dedicated to the education and knowledge of our resources that are the ultimate backbone of the entire technology system.
