BMC Surgical Services
A multi-million-dollar investment in a new surgical wing at Berkshire Medical Center has created nine operating rooms of the future, each equipped with the most advanced technology available at any hospital, anywhere in the country. Staffed with highly skilled surgeons leading teams that are
dedicated to excellent patient results, our Department of Surgery provides services that range from minimally invasive procedures to comprehensive cancer surgery and highly complicated brain surgery.
At BMC, the Department of Surgery encourages collaboration among some of the most skilled caregivers in our hospital. In addition to excellent surgeons, our program includes trained and certified surgical technicians, registered nurses who have years of experience in caring for patients after surgery and other support services throughout the hospital that are essential for excellent outcomes. Collaboration also means that whenever it is necessary, surgeons with different specialties will operate together to achieve the best results for a patient. Each week, a multidisciplinary review of all surgical cases brings the best expertise in the hospital to the benefit of every surgical patient.
Our designation as the region's only Level II Trauma Center signifies that our surgeons have met strict standards for dealing with immediate and life-threatening accidents or injuries. This designation has strengthened our program for all other kinds of surgeries. In addition, surgical excellence played a role in BMC's Outstanding Achievement Award from the American College of Surgeon's Commission on Cancer. BMC was the only hospital in Massachusetts to receive this honor following the 2006 survey.
The Department of Surgery at BMC is also dedicated to delivering excellent education to the next generation of surgeons through our surgical residency program in affiliation with the University of Massachusetts Medical Center.
