Ways to Give to Fairview Hospital

Throughout its 95-year history, Fairview Hospital has been blessed by a community that supports our vision of providing healthcare for all. All types of gifts are welcome to make possible the highest quality of healthcare for our community.

Each gift made to Fairview Hospital plays an important role in advancing the care our hospital provides. All donations to Fairview Hospital receive a written letter of thanks and place the donor on our mailing list to receive newsletters, updates and information about Fairview Hospital. Gifts of $1,000 or more are recognized as members of the Annual Arbor Vitae Society. Names of these donors are on display on the first floor and on a plaque in the Emergency Department. Fairview honors the wishes of those donors who desire to be anonymous.

The Grateful Patient Program
The Grateful Patient Program is an opportunity for former patients to join our circle of friends who support Fairview. Our patients benefit from the generosity of our donors who have helped Fairview provide state-of-the-art medical technology to serve our patients. The Grateful Patient Program invites you to join us in building for the future of patient care. Gifts from past patients have a special meaning to the Fairview Staff and your entire donation will be used for advances in medical technology at Fairview. Special envelopes are placed in patient rooms for patients who may like to make a donation.

Memorial and Tribute Giving
Families and friends of loved ones who have passed away often wish to make a gift in memory of someone special. Fairview Hospital welcomes these gifts and all are recognized and honored by a light and recognition in our Trees of Light Program which lights up our Emergency Department during the winter months.

Special Gifts
When an individual or corporation would like to make a special gift to Fairview Hospital, our goal is to match the donors' interests and values with the hospital's needs. For information about special major giving opportunities, please contact Lauren Smith at

Giving Securities to Fairview Hospital
Gifts of securities are a wonderful way to support the mission of Fairview Hospital and offers significant tax benefits to the donor as well. Given directly to Fairview, gifts of securities will avoid any capital gains tax if the present value is higher than the original purchase price. This method is important when the asset has been owned for 12 months or more, has appreciated in value and will be subject to capital gains tax if sold. When given to Fairview Hospital outright, the total value of the asset is determined at the date of transfer.

Making a Bequest to Fairview Hospital - The Mary Mason Society
In 1913, Fairview Hospital was founded with a bequest made by Mary Mason, who donated the land and funds for a community hospital that would become the pride and lifeline of the southern Berkshire, tri-state community. Throughout our history, the generosity of many friends who have left a legacy to Fairview Hospital has given our hospital the resources to embrace state of the art technology to serve our community.

As we look to the future and build for the next century of care, we welcome your inquiry to the potential meaning of your gift to our community hospital. By remembering Fairview Hospital in your will, you can have a significant impact on the health care of future generations.

The most common planned gift, bequests, are gifts made through your will. A gift through your will a lasting legacy that gives special meaning to the care we provide at Fairview Hospital. No matter what the amount, a gift through your estate will make a tremendous impact on the health care of our community. Your bequest may have estate tax planning benefits as well.

When you advise us that you have made a bequest to Fairview Hospital, you will become eligible for membership in The Mary Mason Society which recognizes, honors and thanks individuals who have made a commitment to the future of the hospital through bequests in their wills or other estate plans. You are invited to become a member by making a gift in your will or trust, naming Fairview Hospital as owner/beneficiary of you life insurance policy, or establishing other planned giving arrangements.

Prospective donors should consult their legal and financial advisors concerning charitable gift planning and their personal financial and estate plans. Fairview Hospital welcomes the opportunity to assist in gift planning for the hospital, but cannot provide legal advice. The following language may help you and your attorney when drawing up a bequest that meets your needs.

  • General Bequest
If you intend to make an outright bequest of cash, securities or other property by designating a specific dollar amount, a particular asset or a fixed percentage of your estate to be used for general purposes: "I give, devise, and bequeath to Fairview Hospital, a Massachusetts charitable corporation, the sum of $_______  (or a description of the specific asset), for the benefit of Fairview Hospital for its unrestricted use or purpose."
  • Special Gift
If you intend to make an outright bequest for a specific purpose, such as support of the Emergency Department:
"I give, devise, and bequeath to Fairview Hospital, a Massachusetts charitable corporation, the sum of $ _____ to be used for the following purpose: (state the purpose). If at any time in the judgment of the trustees of Fairview Hospital it is impossible or impracticable to carry out exactly the designated purpose, they shall determine an alternative purpose as near as possible to the designated purpose."
  • Residuary Bequest
If you intend to leave the "rest of your estate" or a set percentage of estate:
"I give, devise, bequeath to Fairview Hospital, a Massachusetts charitable corporation, the residual (or ____%) of my estate to Fairview Hospital for its unrestricted use or purpose."
  • Endowed Bequest
If you wish to restrict the principal of your gift, requiring Fairview Hospital to use only the investment income that is generated. Creating an endowment in this manner means your gift can continue giving indefinitely.
"I give, devise and bequeath to Fairview Hospital, a Massachusetts charitable corporation, the sum of $ __________ to establish and endowed bequest for the benefit of its unrestricted or general purposes." When you advise us that you have made a bequest to Fairview Hospital, you will become eligible for membership in The Mary Mason Society which recognizes, honors and thanks individuals who have made a commitment to the future of the hospital through bequests in their wills or other estate plans. You are invited to become a member by making a gift in your will or trust, naming Fairview Hospital as owner/beneficiary of you life insurance policy, or establishing other planned giving arrangements.
