Title   SENIOR CLINICAL PATHOLOGY ASSISTANT

Primary Duties   The Sr. Clinical Pathology Assistant will be responsible for care and accuracy in collecting and labeling specimens. He/she will require the use of independent judgment and initiative to schedule, organize and plan work. Ability to work efficiently, accurately and alertly for extended periods of time, and under stress, to ensure against errors is needed. Effective communication skills-use of computer systems, listening, writing, talking and reading. He/she has to be knowledgeable of various anticoagulants, special handling and preparation of specimens that are to be performed. Ability to cover any shift including early birds and nursing homes. May act as courier when needed. He/she will provide supervision for in-patient phlebotomist. Collects blood from inpatients and outpatients of all ages. Teaches medical technology students and various nursing personnel to draw blood. Flexibility and adaptability in emergency situations including working additional hours or shifts and above average manual dexterity required.
Minimum Qualifications   High school diploma or equivalent. Phlebotomy certification preferred. Five years experience in a hospital laboratory. Independent judgment and initiative required to schedule organize and plan work. Collect blood from patients of all ages. Teach Medical Technology students and various nursing personnel to draw blood. Responsible for care and accuracy in collecting and labeling specimens. Flexibility and adaptability in emergency situations including working additional hours or shifts. Ability to work efficiently, accurately, and alertly for extended periods of time, and under stress and to ensure against errors. Above average manual dexterity. Effective communication skills, listening, writing speaking and reading. Use of LIS/HIS computer system. Ability to cover any shift including early birds and nursing homes. Available for courier responsibilities when needed.
