Primary Duties   The Medical Social Worker provides crisis intervention and counseling to patients and families with emergent or complex psychosocial problems, which interfere with, are affected by, or are a result of their medical diagnosis. The Medical Social Worker provides staff support and consultation and acts in a multidisciplinary role. This role also provides community education programs and consultation to primary care physicians and their staff. The Medical Social Worker carries a limited outpatient psychotherapy caseload serving primarily patients with co-existing medical illness. As needed, the Medical Social Worker will make referrals for post-hospitalization services, (mental health/substance abuse, other social service support). The Medical Social Worker is available for complex legal issues and regulatory reporting.

Weekend/Holiday Schedule   Every other weekend and holiday.
Minimum Qualifications   Master's degree in Social Work required. L.C.S.W. is required. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required. Ability to work independently required. Proven crisis intervention skills. Proven solution oriented and brief therapy skills. Knowledge of BMC/MHSAB resources and community resources. Knowledge of regulatory reporting requirements. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Proven collaboration skills with other disciplines. Computer experience preferred. Provide appropriate clinical documentation. Develop appropriate caseload; triage referrals; and follow-up. Experience in family work preferred.
