Pediatrics at BMC

Whether year round residents or visitors to the area, children are important to us at Berkshire Medical Center. Our Pediatrics Unit serves patients from newborns through age twenty-one.

Our experienced Pediatric nurses understand the unique needs of children and adolescents, and the importance of family involvement in their care. We provide "rooming in" for parents who wish to remain with their child during the hospital stay. To help make the visit more pleasant, we have on hand a variety of "in room" games and videos, as well as a play room for those with no contagious illness.

To help children ages 3-16 get acquainted with the hospital before surgery, we offer a free pre-operative class and tour, taught by one of our Pediatric nurses. Content is geared to the children's specific needs and ages, but may include exploring the play room, viewing the fish tank, practicing with the buttons on the bed, visiting the kitchen for a slushy, as well as learning about the process of going to the operating room and what to expect on return.

Classes are held on Monday evenings at 7:00 p.m. No appointment is necessary and siblings are welcome to come along too.
